Reminiscent of the Far East, the Fortune Stacks slot machine is a popular slot game from Konami. It features the company’s trademarked Action Packed Symbols during the free spins, giving players the opportunity for huge wins.
Competing against machines with hundreds, if not thousands of paylines, this 30-line machine holds its own.
Popular in both live and online casinos, Fortune Stacks is a seemingly traditional video slot that surprises the player by transforming stacks of symbols during the bonus feature.
With such a variety of games, what keeps bringing players back to this popular machine?
Themed on the Orient
Featuring a red and gold background, Fortune Stacks slots offers players the opportunity to win a share of the fabled riches of the Orient.
Symbols continuing the theme include a benevolent emperor, the high-paying kitty, dragons, pigs, a bonsai money tree, and bags of gold coins. Expectant sounds herald the third golden scatter urn and free spins.
So, what makes this seemingly traditional theme so popular? While the colors and high-quality graphics might attract gamers, there is more to Fortune Stacks by Konami than you’ll see from first glance.
Test Your Luck Playing Fortune Stacks
Paylines are fairly standard for a thirty-payline game, which may initially turn players off as Fortune Stacks competes against games featuring no paylines or thousands of paylines. But, the opportunity for high wins in the bonus game makes it all worthwhile.
Symbols pay on adjacent reels from left to right, along the thirty playlines. Scatters, which start the free spin bonus games are the only exception. The game has five reels, with each showing three symbols. There are a total of 11 symbols, with five of those being themed, and the remainder traditional card symbols ranging from the ace to the nine.
In addition to these, there is an emperor wild symbol and the golden urn. When three to five golden urns appear, the free slot game spins are triggered. The emperor is wild for all symbols except the scatter symbol.
Hitting the Bonus Game
When a minimum of three golden urns appear, the Fortune Stacks bonus game is triggered. The number of free games is based on the number of triggering scatters. The number of triggered free spins is as follows:
- 3 urns gives 6 free spins
- 4 urns gives 15 free spins
- 5 urns gives 30 free spins
Excitement builds during the bonus games as opportunity knocks in the form of multipliers and the possibility of retriggers. Retriggering games are the same numbers, except that two golden urns will give an additional 3 free spins.
The free games are where the action happens. Multipliers are added to the stacks of symbols, often on more than one reel at a time. These combine to give the player the opportunity for fantastic wins.
But that’s not all.
Symbols can transform to make paying symbols along with the multipliers. As with all gameplay, the emperor becomes animated and smiles when he helps make a winning pay.
Each time a multiplier appears, it will multiply the payline by the amount shown, whether they are 2x, 3x, 5x, or a combination of any of these. They can appear on any of the reels, and could possibly increase the pay up to 25 times!
The Nuts and Bolts
Across the bottom of the screen the player will find a menu button. This is where the sound, turbo action, game recall and help/pay buttons are located. The turbo action stops all reels simultaneously. It can be combined with the auto button or when spinning manually.
There is no option for changing the number of lines played, making this a thirty credit minimum play machine. The spin button shows the number of credits being played, not the dollar amount.
There is a max button as long as the ability to choose from one to five credits.
Denomination amounts can be changed under the button, which does show the dollar amount per credit. These choices include: one cent, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and a max of fifty cents per line.
The spin button needs to be pressed to start the automatic spins and can also be used to stop the reels. Using it to freeze the reels will stop the auto play option if used.
Where to play this game
Fortune Stacks is a fairly common slot machine on the casino floor. You can find it throughout most Las Vegas casinos as well as Atlantic City and even at the Detroit Michigan casino, MGMGrand.
However, if you want to play online, you’ll need to look a bit harder. Only a few states have legalized gambling and launched real money casinos. More are on the way in 2020 and 2021.
If you live in a state that doesn’t have regulated online gambling (yet!), you can check out ChumbaCasino or Luckyland Slots. Both sites use a sweepstakes model for online gambling and have slots that replicate those that are available in live casinos.
How’s the Pay?
The Fortune Stacks slot game by Konami doesn’t seem to offer as many small wins as a lot of other machines. There are typically enough to keep the player interested, and a four or five of a kind pay occurs occasionally between spins.
The bonus game feature is what makes this a popular game. They tend to occur more frequently than in a lot of games.
All in all, Fortune Stacks is a game that typically provides the player with the ability to play for an extended time with a minimum bet and the opportunity to hit large returns in the bonus feature.
