There are now newer versions of the Rainbow Riches slot machine available in live casinos. These have kept the game play of the original, updated the graphics and added in some (smaller) progressive jackpots.
Irish themed slots featuring pots of gold, leprechauns and rainbows are popular. To have stood the test of time in this crowded niche should tell you there is something special about Rainbow Riches slots. This is a mix of super-solid gaming, along with 3 different bonus games.
How the Rainbow Riches Slot Can Bring You Some Irish Luck
Spins on this game can seem dominated by playing cards on some spins. These land on 3 rows of a 5-reel slot – with 20 win-lines crossing from left to right. You can adjust the number of win lines on this game. Bets start at just 1c per line.
Wild symbols, which show a gold coin, are the highest paying. These pay 25x for 5 of a kind. The second highest paying symbols are stacked on the reels. This is the Rainbow Riches logo. It only pays half the amount of the wilds, though unlike that symbol it does have the potential to cover all 20 win-lines on the same spin.
The other unique symbols – a leprechaun, pot of gold and wishing well – are all bonus symbols. This leaves those playing cards, aces down to nines, to supply the remaining line hits.
If you are playing a casino version of this game, you’ll sometimes find ‘Super Spins’ on offer. This system gives you 5 spins for a series of fixed prices. The difference in this variation is that wilds lock into place for these 5 spins, giving the last spin some bigger win possibilities.
Bonus Games on the Rainbow Riches Slots
Original versions of this game come with 3 different bonus games. Each one is triggered by a different bonus symbol. There is a link between them, with the Road to Riches bonus having potential to trigger the Pot of Gold bonus on some casino versions.
Here are the different bonuses:
- Wishing Well Bonus: This is the simplest of the bonus games. It can be very profitable, with up to 500x your triggering bet available. You need 3 of the well symbols to trigger it, and then get to choose one of them over the reels. Like in all quality picks games, the ones you did not choose are then shown.
- Road to Riches Bonus: You’ll move along a winding path towards a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow in this bonus. Each move needs you to spin a wooden wheel. This has segments to move you along, and a collect segment which will end your bonus. Casino versions have a choice of entering the Pot of Gold bonus game with one stop.
- Pot of Gold Bonus: This bonus is a wheel style game with an Irish theme. You’ll see the (dancing) leprechaun in on a rock, with different pots flying around him. When the spinning stops, you can win up to 500x your bet, depending on which pot stops in front. Pots can include progressives in some variations of Rainbow Riches.
Where Can I Play Rainbow Riches in the USA?
Original versions of Barcrest’s Rainbow Riches slots have now started to appear in online casinos – as well as in live venues. There are currently 4 states offering legal online casinos although non offer the game as of yet. These are NJ, PA, WV and MI. Big online casino brands including BetMGM, Caesar’s and Sugarhouse have partnered with local venues in these states. They offer much more than just casino games – with poker, sports betting and table games also available online.
Design of the Rainbow Riches Slots
The original slot is plain by today’s standard – though later live casino versions have upgraded those plain graphics significantly. Just about all the classic Irish clichés are included in this game. They include the obligatory leprechaun, pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, jig style music and the wishing wells. The only significant omission is a pint of Guinness.
When you spin the reels the playing card symbols are dominant. These have been given a slightly updated font to fit with the theme. There are no animations on the reels of the original, though things come to life (coin sparkling, leprechaun grinning) for the later versions.
Bonus games are lively, though again the graphics and animations are as basic as you’ll find these days.
Should You Seek for a Pot of Gold at the End of the Rainbow?
This game is not about the graphics (which are very plain by today’s standards). It is all about the solid and enjoyable game play. The base game includes stacked high paying symbols, plus enough wilds to connect wins regularly. When you get the bonus games, windfalls of up to 500x your triggering bet.
With progressive jackpots added to some newer variations of Rainbow Riches, those pots of gold at the end of the rainbow just got that little bit fuller.
